If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive full HD portable projector, then the Heyup Boxe Projector is well worth taking a look at.

It is a lightweight, curved-edged, yellow-coloured, device ideal for taking away on summer holidays and for giving to the kids for sleepovers.

The unit measures 134 x 115 x 175mm and has a base with four rubber feet and a standard 1/4 fitting for a tripod.

You can use it to cast from your iPhone or Android device easily and picture quality from the device is decent quality. There is pleasing clarity, colour and contrast.

It uses a native operating system called FengOS based on Android.

And while there is no access to Google Play Store, you can download big name apps such as Netflix through a platform called Aptoide TV.

The projector screens movie content in full HD resolution

There are HDMI and USB inputs too if you’d rather physical inputs of your content. The HDMI port proves incredibly useful as you can then connect an Apple TV box or Google TV unit to the projector which means you get easy access to all of your favourite streaming services on the projector.

There is no autofocus but a manual wheel controller makes it easy to adjust and correct if need.

It works best used in darkened rooms as it can only deliver 150 ANSI lumens of brightness.

There a couple of small 3w speakers built in but you’ll get much more enjoyment by pairing the projector with a Bluetooth speaker. Or you can use the 3.5mm audio port to connect headphones or wired speakers.

The machine can decode 4K movies, but, to be clear, it will still project them in FHD resolution.

The device comes with a white remote control that uses Bluetooth rather than IR to communicate with the projector. It has responsive tactile buttons and batteries are included in the remote.

Despite a built-in 7800mAH battery, the Boxe Projector will only last for 90 minutes. So I would recommend using it with external power if you are going to watch movies with it. Or make sure to have a powerful enough fully charged portable battery nearby if using outdoors or away from a wall socket.

Verdict

This is a great value device and kids love it.
