Qualcomm has launched a new chip aimed at premium handheld gaming devices. The company took wraps off the all-new Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 Gaming Platform on the second day of Snapdragon Tech Summit 2021 in Hawaii. The new gaming chip from the company is designed to create a new category of dedicated gaming devices.
The new chip is designed to offer a seamless gaming experience by offering good thermal solutions, better connectivity, cross-platform support, better display and battery life.
The Snapdragon G3x Gaming Platform brings together Snapdragon Elite Gaming features and technology to allow users to play a huge library of Android mobile games and also supports cross-platform gaming allowing players to stream titles from PC, cloud and console.
Qualcomm says that the new platform and the developer kit will enable developers to create custom handheld devices with improved performance, thermal efficiency and offer a large, high frame rate screen.
In terms of features, the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 Gaming Platform brings support for the controller, stereo haptics, improved audio, an exclusive Adreno GPU capable of handling 10-bit HDR for gaming and 144 frames per second.
The Snapdragon G3x chip also comes with FastConnect 6900 Mobile connectivity that includes support for 5G mmWave and sub-6 for ultra-fast, lag-free cloud gaming while streaming the most bandwidth-intensive games from services like Xbox Cloud Gaming or Steam Remote Play.
Apart from that it also includes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity options.
Snapdragon Sound Technology, just like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, announced yesterday, also comes onboard on Snapdragon G3x for optimsed quality and reduced latency while gaming,
Other features includes AKSys support which allows precise touch to controller mapping technology to enable use of the built-in controllers across a wide array of games.
The Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 Gaming platform and Snapdragon G3x Handheld Developer Kit will be first available to developers that will allow them to explore the full potential of the gaming platform and then build titles based on that. Going forward, OEMs can create gaming hardware based on that taking advantage of the new Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 chip for consumers.
