Save $70 on the latest Beats Solo3 headphones with ‘best-in-class’ battery life on Amazon – MarketWatch
With Beats’ Fast Fuel feature, you can get 3 hours of battery life from a 5-minute charge.
Now that I will be returning to the office from time to time (and traveling long distances again for the first time in a while), it was important for me to find a pair of over-the-ear wireless headphones for my commute. The podcasts I listen to have released many episodes since I was able to tune in regularly and my queue is overflowing. So I bought a pair of these Beats Solo 3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones from Amazon — they’re now 35% off at $129.95 (originally $199.95). Read on to see if these headphones are also right for you.
What reviewers say about the Beats Solo3: CNET applauds the headphones’ “best-in-class” battery life, attributing it to the addition of Apple’s W1 custom Bluetooth chip in the latest model. The chip “improves battery life drastically and makes pairing the headphone with Apple devices dead simple.” That said, the device “works just fine” with Android and other devices and the battery life rating is the same at 40 hours (yep, you read that right.) And with Beats’ Fast Fuel feature, you can get 3 hours of battery life from a 5-minute charge.

Beats Solo3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones
These high performance wireless Bluetooth headphones feature the Apple W1 chip and up to 40 hours of battery life.
The Solo3 isn’t much of an upgrade from the Solo2, according to review site SoundGuys. However, its aesthetic remains among the more fashionable in consumer audio products (they’re available in black, red and rose gold at this price). Again, the battery life is the big sell. “If you don’t need the latest and greatest features, the Solo3 will serve you well with its W1 chip integration, fast charging, and exceptionally long battery life.”
Over 40,468 reviewers at Amazon give the headphones an average 4.7 out of 5 star rating. “These are great for a casual listener who spends time at a desk or likes to complete tasks while listening to music. Now you can be plugged in without actually being plugged in.” For my part, while I like the design and the fact that they’re foldable, I really like that I can get 40 hours of use in between full charges. The audio quality is pretty good, albeit not fully noise canceling, and they’re truly great commuting headphones for folks on the go.
Other things to consider: The headphones are apparently a bit uncomfortable for folks with larger ears and heads. It also may not be the perfect set for the true audiophiles among us. SoundGuys notes that the Solo3 has “less emphatic bass response than initially anticipated,” but still solid when it comes to hip-hop and pop. “It won’t be winning any awards from us but will please a large portion of general consumers.”
